Cashmere truly wished she could be closer to the sun. She turned her attention back to Annie. “Really?” she asked sadly, “Gloss has been drifting out of the nightmares; he rarely has them, but he still has the spur-of-the-moment emotional breakdowns.” She frowned slightly, knowing that Gloss had been coming out of his ways, but he still in some reasons would never let them go.She stood on the beach, her back resting on a tree as the sun set. Cashmere loved the way the colors floated on the surface of the water; it reminded her in a way of the cherry blossom trees at home. She sighed, wishing she could be closer to the sun, but knew that it was impossible.
Annie had been walking on the beach when she found Cashmere sitting under a tree, watching the sun set. “Hey Cashmere. How are you? Enjoying the sunset?” Annie loved watching the sunset, and some company wouldn’t bother her now.
She didn’t notice when Annie had come up behind her. “Oh, hey Annie,” she smiled. Annie hadn’t really changed since the last time she saw her. “I’m good, how about you?” Her eyes drifted back to the sun as she patted the spot next to her. “Sit down,” she asked almost demandingly.
Annie sat down next to Cashmere, feeling the warm sand between her feet. She looked at the sun set before she answered.. “I’m fine. You know, just the usual. Sometimes nightmares, others screaming. You might know because of Gloss.” Annie stared into the horizon blankly and imagined Gloss, Cashmere’s twin brother, suffering the same mental unstableness she was going through.
“Yeah… I’m still getting them, probably cause Finn is out for business and I’m all to myself.. But I still manage to get myself out of them. Sometimes a lot of quiet makes me nervous, but I know how to deal with it. I just hope Finnick got here sooner.” Annie sighed. “I’m really happy Gloss is getting better, if I could say that. But everyone knows that the past is the past.. and it will always chase us.” She looked into the water, wishing to swim away from all her fears.
“Oh,” she sighed, “I’m sorry. It’s good that you know how to calm yourself. I’m still trying to teach him that myself. I wish Finnick would get here sooner, too, so you could be happy.” She watched as two birds twittered across the sun, their silhouettes etching a mental painting in her brain. “I’m really glad, too. I think Emily is helping a lot.”
“Oh, don’t be sorry. Finnick is going to be here soon. And thank you, you wishing me to be happy.. you know, not many care about us, people like Gloss or me.” She noticed Cashmere staring at a pair of birds flying across the orange tinted sky. “I really like Emily. She is a very nice girl.. And I’m really happy she’s helping. You know, I’d love to help. It will keep my mind occupied and I’ll be doing something I’d really enjoy..”
“He is? Great,” she smiled, “No, no problem. People do care about you, if you haven’t noticed. It’s hard to see though. When they call you words like ‘crazy’ or ‘mad’, they are really only jealous of the fact that you can understand more than they can. You’ve seen things.” She bit her lip, wishing that even if those people were jealous, that they wouldn’t call them names, but that’s how life works. “She is. I’m glad I’m not the only one who can keep him happy now. It takes a lot of work to watch two younger siblings, make sure your mother is still partly sane, and keep your brother happy,” she paused, “Really?”
“Thanks for caring, Cashmere. You really are someone I look up to. Just like I look up to Finn.” Annie knew Cashmere was right. People calling her names were just jealous of her because of her experience. Slight flashes of the games came into her mind. “No Annie, don’t slip now.” she said to herself. Back in reality, she answered. “ You really are a fighter. And yes, I’d love to help you. I could baby sit or even help Gloss. We are really good friends, and somehow we share a passion for swimming. Or I guess so.. He always accompanies me to the lake when I go for a swim.”
“You shouldn’t look up to me. I’m just another Victor,” she shook her head at the thought. She watched Annie’s eyes and rested a hand on her shoulder. “Annie, it’s okay,” she said calmly, knowing what was going on in her mind. “Thank you,” she smiled, “That would be nice. I’m always afraid to leave my mother alone with them but I have no choice.” She listened, her eyebrows shooting up at the mention of Gloss and swimming. “I guess, he always liked my pool,” she nodded to herself.
“You don’t talk about him a lot,” she said, a small smile tugging the edges of her lips. “Okay, fine, but we have been...
“Well, you’ve heard me talk about Finnick all this time.. I deserve some payback for being THAT selfish.. and I’d love...
